In the Picturesque Style
Starting life as a medieval Great Hall, Kentchurch Court was significantly rebuilt by John Nash in the late 1700s. A leading architect of the Regency period, Nash’s trademark ‘Picturesque’ style can be seen here in all its glory, from the castellations to the garden landscaping.
The elegant interiors feature intricate carvings by Grinling Gibbons and a fine collection of portraits, which date back to the 16th Century.

Owain Glyndwr Tower
The last native Welsh Prince of Wales and enduring national Welsh hero, Owain Glyndwr has strong connections with Kentchurch Court. His daughter Alys married Sir John Scudamore and it is believed that after the failure of his rebellion against the English he took refuge here in the tower. It is beautifully panelled, with a four-poster bed, decorative plaster ceiling and secret passageway.
Film Location
Kentchurch Court has played a star turn on your screens, including ‘Country House Rescue,’ and Channel 4’s ‘Regency House Party’. Learn about the surprising treasures we uncovered when packing up the house in preparation for the TV crews.

Colourful Characters
Over the centuries, the family has had its fair share of interesting characters. Find out about Sir James Scudamore, a jousting champion and courtier of Queen Elizabeth I, who was the inspiration for the kniight in the epic poem ‘The Faerie Queene’. And find out why the witty and stylish Lt. Commander Jack Lucas-Scudamore dressed as his mother and drove to France for the season.
